Key Technologies

HD Movie 720p allows the W290 to capture HD movies at 30 fps and 1280 x 720 pixel resolution as if grabbing a quick
snapshot. The W290 employs the high-quality, high-compression MPEG-4 format to store up to 60 minutes of movie action on
a single 4 GB Memory Stick. The camera can be connected via an optional cable to an HDTV such as BRAVIA for stunning
large-screen home movie viewing enjoyment.

Intelligent Auto Mode replaces auto shooting mode, and is selectable via the mode dial. When this mode is active, the camera
automatically determines the optimal settings for each scene by using the Intelligent Scene Recognition.

Optical SteadyShot is an Optical Image Stabiliser that automatically steadies shaky hands and vibrations to produce sharp
digital images.

Smile Shutter which automatically detects and captures smiling faces, is now even easier to use with a dedicated smile
shutter button located on top of the camera. Smile Shutter can now be used in tandem with Intelligent Scene Recognition. This
means smiling portraits will look better than ever because Intelligent Scene recognition automatically determines the optimal
settings for difficult shooting conditions. As before, Smile Shutter also lets users select the degree of Smile Detection
sensitivity as well as the adult or child priority setting to automatically shoot when a child or adult smiles.

Face Detection (Face Selection) allows a particular face to be registered so the camera always optimises focus, exposure, and
white balance to make that face look its best in the scene. Even when the subject leaves the frame, the camera remembers the
face. This feature is perfect at weddings and other events when the user wants to focus on a certain person.

BIONZ is Sony’s high performance imaging processor which enables the W290 to deliver high quality photos and fast image
processing.

Dynamic Range Optimiser is further improved to automatically optimise exposure and contrast for each scene. This is
especially useful for preventing underexposure of the subject when shooting backlit portraits, and for any scenes exhibiting
strong lighting contrast between background and foreground.
